The Abalone Resort is situated in Arpora, a quieter area behind Baga Beach with an abundance of birdlife. Arpora is less commercialised with a lot of local activity taking place, quiet enough to relax but close enough to Baga not to bore.
The scenery around the property is lush and green; lots of coconut trees and paddy fields with several eating places, other hotels, international phones plus the internet and local provisions stores. Taxis and rickshaws are easily available; Anjuna is a 10-15 minute ride, Baga takes just 5, or a very pleasant walk will take approximately 20 minutes.
The hotel has a good-size, L-shaped swimming pool, and sunbeds and patio tables and chairs are arranged around the pool-side with a small outdoor plus indoor multi-cuisine restaurant. Safety deposit boxes are available at reception, payable locally.
The twin rooms offer a fridge, ceiling fan, en-suite shower and WC and a balcony or terrace. Air-conditioned rooms are on request, subject to availability on arrival and payable locally. All rooms are offered on a Bed & Continental Breakfast basis. Christmas and New Year festivities for guests travelling at this time are included. The Abalone is ideal for those who don't want to be right in the centre of things yet have all the bars, shops, restaurants and the beach at their fingertips.

Review Title : Abalone Resort is rubbish Your Rating 1 Stars. Made By Energy on 13/01/2007
Abalone Resort is not a good hotel to stay at. Have just returned from a visit January 2007. The hotel is old and unloved, staff morale is low and the condition of the rooms is beyond basic and they are dirty. The current brochures advertise it as having sky TV and baths however this is not true as they have neither in fact the have sold all the TVs. The My Travel Rep ‘John’ was not interested, unhelpful, unfriendly and dismissive of everyone who complained, if you are offered an alternative after you complain then you will have to pay extra and it is usually an even worse hotel, the travel companies know there’s nothing you can do once you are there. I have been to Goa before and knew to only expect basic but this hotel is not worth it, spend a little bit extra and get a nicer hotel. Breakfast consisted of stale toast and horrible coffee. The pool area was nice however it was small and the sun didn’t cover much area. If you are walking a lot the beach is very far at least 40 minutes walk and isn’t really a safe journey as the main road is unpaved. Apora is out of the way from the other resorts and other than a sweet shop and a few cafes there’s nothing there so you will spend all your time in taxis. Have read other reviews when I purchased holiday so thought I would update them as they were a year old. It’s just not that good and even though I had a great holiday in Goa I could only recommend not to bother with this hotel. Also I have read other reports about theft at this hotel although nothing happened when I was there the management are a bit dodgy so it is likely it is true, they were arranging an insurance scam while I was there for one of the guests to claim when he got home saying his room had been robbed, so that says it all really about this hotel.

Review Title : Abalone Hotel Your Rating 1 Stars. Made By Clive Sawyer on 06/11/2007
Old and run down, dirty, staff not at all helpful. Holiday rep. very happy to sell you tours, however having been to Goa before and having no interest in tours he turned out not to be helpful. Rooms were very basic indeed, beds were suspect since we appeared to have flea bites. Breakfast we looked at once and decided that once was enough! (There is a superb place for all meals 50 yards away!). We would never recommend this hotel to anyone so look for something else. It's also out the way of everything.

Review Title : abalone resort is rubbish and MYTravel is worse! Your Rating 5 Stars. Made By k stnadirn on 26/11/2007
The last review on Abalone Resort is totally true - it is not a nice place to stay. We went last Christmas and as soon as we saw the room we decided not to stay. The room was indeed dirty, it did not have the advertised satellite TV nor did it have the advertised bath. The resort itself is remote and there literally is nothing there (including no beach) so you will need to spend a fortune on taxis or bike hire.
When we telephoned the MYTravel representative to ask to be moved to another hotel they were less than helpful or sympathetic. It took 3 days for them to arrange for alternative accommodation for us and that cost us an extra £150. The new hotel was indeed worse in the middle of noisy Baga where we spent many nights listening to bad Karaoke and loud base whilst trying to sleep not to mention fending off the cockroaches.
All in all, we did have a wonderful time in Goa as the place is great and we hired a scooter in order to escape from the MYTravel reps and the awful hotels they kept sticking us in. I seriously suggest that you DO NOT travel with MYTravel as the only thing they will guarantee you is to loose the first half of your holiday arguing with their awful staff.

Review Title : Not that bad Your Rating 2 Stars. Made By Maureen Hall on 07/01/2008
We checked this hotel out for friends who are going next week. We spoke to guests there who had been before and liked it enough to return. We looked around and it appears to be a basic 2* with a nice pool. What do people expect? luxury? if so pay luxury prices and stay in isolated hotels. Here is the real Goa, and a good base for exploring the region on scooters. Cheap and cheerful without the neon lights and traffic noise of the main tourist areas.

Review Title : Friendly Haven Your Rating 5 Stars. Made By Yvonne Chapman on 10/01/2008
I thought the Abolone Hotel was a very friendly place. Basic it may be but the staff made up for everything. all they wanted was for their guests to have a happy holiday.
The rooms were cleaned and linen changed every day - the towels were placed on the bed each day in a beautiful pattern. One day as two swans with beaks touching and where beaks touched a beautiful red flower. I was so happy in the hotel, so relaxed. We are returning soon to the hotel, as we found we were treated like family.
Christm as entertainment and food was good, and I cannot understand how people can be so unkind about such a genuine place to stay.

Review Title : It's a bargain! Your Rating 2 Stars. Made By A.K.R on 10/04/2009
I didnt think too much of the hotel to be honest when I first arrived and I did ask my Thomas cook rep to show me some other rooms but they were all the same.
To be honest for a 2 star hotel it was clean, comfortable and I felt safe and the staff were always very attentive. I went in December 2008 for 2 weeks with a friend and we had a great time and we are planning on another trip back to the Abalone later on this year.
For cheap and cheerful I'd reccomend it and there are few bars within walking distance and baga beach is 5 mins away by rikshaw and costs less then a pound! Its a bargain!

Review Title : Loved It! Your Rating 5 Stars. Made By Amy Francis on 24/11/2010
We stayed here last Christmas and had a great time. The staff are more than attentive (even a little too much :) ) but lovely people and always happy to help. The rooms are basic (what do you expect for the price) but very clean and the pool is great, the evening food is also fantastic. Great local restaurants & tailor and great beaches close by. Would definitely recommend it!

Resort : Baga Beach
Description : Baga Beach is the most northerly of this more ‘commercial’ part of beach life in Goa. Early afternoon is one of the busiest beaches we’ve seen. The sunbeds are lined up like soldiers in front of the endless string of beach shacks and amidst the hustle and bustle and throng of tourists you’ll see a cow or two lying peacefully in the sun or slowly ambling along the beach.
The Goans have a way of sharing life with the fauna around them and it’s great to see this love being shared by visitors. Despite the wonderful hustle and bustle, the fishermen still fish as they have always done. In Baga the beach shacks are relatively sophisticated with electricity and tablecloths. It’s wonderful to sit in a shack late in the afternoon swapping tales of the days exploits with fellow holidaymakers. It’s also easy to get distracted by the little tailor shops amongst the shacks.
This is also the place for nightlife including ‘Kamaki’, ‘Tito’s’ and ‘Mambo’s’ bars.

Review Title : My Goan Family Your Rating 5 Stars. Made By yvonne Chapman on 23/02/2008
I found this hotel to have the friendliest staff possible, treated us like family - the hoel is basic, but all staff tried their best to give one a very happy holiday, which they achieved.
From the management down to the cleaning staff, gardeners, electrician Security, chefs, waiters, little tailor shop - jewellers - everyone unbelievably welcoming - we can't wait to return.
I love to watch birds, and the birds in the coconut trees just beautiful. Yvonne Chapman

Went to the Squeeze beach shack every day.
Great food, great position, really friendly all was spoilt by one waiter named Wally.
He was rude, offensiveand very unhelpful. At one point he ever tried to assault my wife and accused our fried of using drugs!
A real piece of work! He spoils it for everyone.
The other waiters are great but avoid Wally like the plague!!!

The Shining Star Beach Shack is the best... for food, service and friendliness from all the staff.
If you want excellent food try anything, never had a bad meal. Ask for Reddy, he'll make sure that your day is a good one... If you need a taxi, Sam's brother does a great service..

Review Title : SQUEEZE SHACK Your Rating 5 Stars. Made By Carl on 26/12/2008
Peope have been slagging poor old Wally off yet he is really cool.
Im still in Goa & Wally hs organised all my trips 4 me & cheap taxi owned by squeeze shack.
He is very helpful. Some of the other lads cn get annoying when they become familiar with you asking for drinks & wanting to giving you massages etc all day.
Wally lent me an indian phone & sim card for my hols at no cost just top up phone like home.
I am not looking 4ward 2 going home as i have has a gr8 3 weeks so far everyday at squueze shack.
Riverside regency is a good hotel to stay in too which is at the end of the dirt path opp squeeze.
Dont be put off from a couple of neg reviews of wally etc.
Well if you coming out here enjoy!!!!!
